Mathilde has led a life of silence after both her parents died when she was very young and she now lives with her extremely superstitious guardian, Madame B, who she helps to protect from all bad luck. When Mathilde breaks Madame B’s most prized possession, a magical mirror, she goes on a journey to fix it which changes her life forever.

Writer/director Leila Murton Poole describes CinefestOz as ‘the perfect festival for the premiere of our French-Australian film’ and hopes that it ‘can provide an escape from current events – we all need a little magic right now!’ Whilst she has been involved in a number of short films, this is the first that she has both written and directed. The film has won a number of awards at various festivals worldwide, but she is particularly keen to show it to Australian audiences as she believes ‘it will resonate in a special way’ due to the stellar Australian cast and the legendary Michael Caton providing the narration.

Le Miroir also stars Noah Wiseman (The Babadook), Vivienne Powell (Shameless, Deadly Women) and up and coming Rachel Giddens as the lead. The film was scored by BAFTA-nominated Guy Gross (The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert) and Le Miroir’s original score was nominated for a Crystal Pine Award at the prestigious International Sound and Film Music Festival.

The film was shot late last year over 3 days in locations across NSW and supported by the Australian Cultural Fund.

Le Miroir was Leila Murton Poole’s thesis project, filmed as part of her diploma at Sydney Film School.

Described as ‘an utterly charming burst of creativity’ and ‘a welcome salve through these trying times’, Andrew Pierce at The Curb writes that ‘there is a burst of originality with Le Miroir that points to a rising talent finding their own voice’.
